MacArthur's defeat is a simulation of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines from December 1941 to May 1942. Designed for two player but easily played solo, the game covers land and air operations, abstracting naval operations.

Units are primarily regiments with some battalions. Artillery battalions are represented in a semi-abstract manner. Air units are at group (for the Japanese) and squadron (United States and Commonwealth of the Philippines) level. Tank units can be massed together or broken down in company sized units and assigned to support infantry divisions.

Japanese surprise, B-17s, Bataan, Corregidor, and other key elements of the campaign are all included.
